Prosperity (śrī) can become a cause of arrogance, rivalry, and escalation of violence; without restraint and dharma, even “good fortune” may culminate in prolonged, destructive conflict.
Vyāsa describes how, among those being discussed, a major upheaval arose due to the lure of prosperity, and tradition reports that the resulting warfare endured for an extraordinarily long span—thirty-two thousand years.
