Adhyāya 325: Nārada in Śvetadvīpa—Stotra to the Nirguṇa Mahātman
पाद्यादीनि प्रतिग्राह्ू पूजया परयार्चयन्
pādyādīni pratigṛhya pūjayā parayārcayan
Bhīṣma sprach: „Nachdem er die üblichen Gaben angenommen hat, beginnend mit dem Wasser zum Waschen der Füße und dergleichen, soll er den Gast mit der höchsten Ehrfurcht ehren und ihn mit aufrichtigem, vollkommenem Respekt verehren.“
भीष्म उवाच
The verse teaches atithi-dharma: one should receive a guest with the full courtesies of hospitality (beginning with pādya) and honor them with the highest respect, treating service itself as a moral duty.
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on righteous conduct. Here he describes the proper way to welcome and honor a guest—accepting the offered items of reception and then worshipping/serving with utmost reverence.
