Ātma-saṃyama-dharma: One-pointedness of Mind and Senses (शुक–व्यास संवादः)
अभिवाद्य गुरु ब्रूयादधीष्व भगवन्निति । इदं करिष्ये भगवन्निदं चापि कृतं मया,इस प्रकार अभिवादनके पश्चात् हाथ जोड़कर गुरुसे कहे--“भगवन्! अब आप मुझे पढ़ावें। मैंने अमुक काम पूरा कर लिया है और यह अमुक कार्य अभी करूँगा
abhivādya guruṁ brūyād adhīṣva bhagavann iti | idaṁ kariṣye bhagavann idaṁ cāpi kṛtaṁ mayā ||
Nachdem der Schüler den Lehrer ehrerbietig gegrüßt hat, soll er mit gefalteten Händen sprechen: „Ehrwürdiger Herr, unterweise mich.“ Ebenso soll er in Wahrhaftigkeit und Disziplin berichten: „Diese Aufgabe werde ich nun übernehmen, und jene andere ist von mir bereits vollendet.“ Der Vers fasst Lernen als gegründet in Verehrung, Verantwortlichkeit und Bereitschaft zum Dienst der Pflicht.
