शल्यस्य सेनापत्याभ्युपगमः | Śalya’s Acceptance of Command
यदा च द्रौपदी क्लिष्टा मद्विनाशाय दुःखिता । स्थण्डिले नित्यदा शेते यावद् वैरस्य यातनम्,“इसलिये अब उन शत्रुसंतापी वीरोंको युद्धसे रोका नहीं जा सकता। जबसे द्रौपदीको क्लेश दिया गया, तबसे वह दुःखी हो मेरे विनाशका संकल्प लेकर प्रतिदिन मिट्टीकी वेदीपर सोया करती है। जबतक वैरका पूरा बदला न चुका लिया जाय, तबतकके लिये उसने यह व्रत ले रखा है
yadā ca draupadī kliṣṭā madvināśāya duḥkhitā | sthaṇḍile nityadā śete yāvad vairasya yātanam ||
Sañjaya sprach: „Und seit Draupadī Unrecht und Qual erlitt, verharrt sie in Trauer, auf meinen Untergang entschlossen. Tag um Tag liegt sie auf nackter Erde, erträgt die Härte ihres Gelübdes, bis die Pein der Feindschaft vollständig vergolten ist.“
