Śalya–Bhīma Gadā-saṃnipāta and Śalya’s Bāṇa-jāla against Yudhiṣṭhira
Book 9, Chapter 11

The verse highlights how intense anger can crystallize into decisive action; in the kṣatriya context, Bhīma channels wrath into a focused resolve to remove a dangerous aggressor. Ethically, it underscores the tension between righteous protection (defending one’s side and leader) and the peril of krodha driving one toward total destruction.
After Śalya, raging, continues slaughtering Somakas and Pāṇḍava fighters and again afflicts Yudhiṣṭhira with sharp arrows, Bhīma sees this, becomes furious, clenches his teeth, and—intent on Śalya’s ruin—picks up his mace to confront him.
