Droṇa’s Withdrawal, Death, and the Kaurava Rout (द्रोणनिधन-प्रसङ्गः)

The verse highlights how adharma-like confusion (darkness, panic) can overtake even organized forces in war; when fear spreads and perception is obscured, discipline collapses and people act from survival-instinct rather than duty.
As darkness covers the battlefield, the armies being struck from all sides by powerful mahārathis lose cohesion and flee in every direction; Sañjaya reports this rout to Dhṛtarāṣṭra.
