एवं दश दिशो भीष्म: शरजालै: समन्तत: । अतीत्य सेनां पार्थानामवतस्थे चमूमुखे
evaṁ daśa diśo bhīṣmaḥ śarajālaiḥ samantataḥ | atītya senāṁ pārthānām avatasthau camūmukhe ||
Sañjaya sprach: So spannte Bhīṣma in alle zehn Richtungen einen netzgleichen Pfeilhagel aus, durchbrach die Heere der Pāṇḍavas und nahm seinen Stand in der äußersten Front des Aufgebots. Die Szene betont die düstere Ethik kṣatriyischer Kriegführung: Meisterschaft und Entschlossenheit auf dem Schlachtfeld können Formationen und Moral entscheiden, auch wenn der größere Konflikt an Fragen rechter Dharma und an den Preis der Gewalt gebunden bleibt.
