भीष्मस्य शरवर्षः — Bhīṣma’s Arrow-Storm and Kṛṣṇa’s Impulse to Intervene

रक्षसां पुरुषादानां नदतां भैरवान्‌ रवान्‌ | प्रजानाथ! वे सारे वाहन भारी चिन्तामें पड़कर मल-मूत्र करने लगे। भरतश्रेष्ठ) भयंकर गर्जना करनेवाले नरभक्षी राक्षसोंके महान्‌ शब्द सुनायी पड़ते थे; परंतु उनके बोलनेवाले अदृश्य थे

rakṣasāṁ puruṣādānāṁ nadatāṁ bhairavān ravān | prajānātha! te sarve vāhanā bhārī-cintāyāṁ patitvā mala-mūtraṁ cakruḥ | bharataśreṣṭha! bhayaṅkara-garjanā-kāriṇāṁ narabhakṣa-rakṣasāṁ mahāśabdāḥ śrūyante sma; parantu teṣāṁ vaktāro 'dṛśyāḥ āsan |

Sañjaya sagte: „O Herr der Menschen! Man hörte die schrecklichen Brülllaute menschenfressender Rākṣasas, die furchtbar dröhnten. Von überwältigender Angst getroffen, gerieten alle Lasttiere in panische Bedrängnis und ließen Urin und Kot. O Bester der Bhāratas! Diese mächtigen, entsetzlichen Laute fleischfressender Dämonen waren deutlich zu vernehmen — doch die, die sie ausstießen, blieben unsichtbar.“
