Bhīṣma emphasizes the ethical principle that auspicious, righteous action (śubha karma) performed in human life yields auspicious results after death—culminating in heavenly joy and divine companionship. Moral conduct is portrayed as transformative, granting a radiance comparable to revered deities.
In Bhīṣma’s instruction within the Anuśāsana Parva, he describes the posthumous state of certain virtuous persons: because they performed noble deeds on earth, they now dwell in heaven, rejoicing with the gods and enjoying the fruits of their merit.
