वाणिज्यं सत्पथस्थानमातिथ्यं प्रशमो दम: । विप्राणां स्वागतं त्यागो वैश्यधर्म: सनातन:,पशुओंका पालन, खेती, व्यापार, अग्निहोत्रकर्म, दान, अध्ययन, सन्मार्गका आश्रय लेकर सदाचारका पालन, अतिथि-सत्कार, शम, दम, ब्राह्मणोंका स्वागत और त्याग--ये सब वैश्योंके सनातन धर्म हैं

vāṇijyaṁ satpathasthānam ātithyaṁ praśamo damaḥ | viprāṇāṁ svāgataṁ tyāgo vaiśyadharmaḥ sanātanaḥ ||

Śrī Maheshvara sprach: „Handel auf dem rechten Pfad, Gastfreundschaft, innere Ruhe und Selbstzucht, die Ehrung und Begrüßung der Brahmanen sowie Großmut durch Entsagung — dies ist das ewige Dharma des Vaiśya.“
