Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the cultural-ethical importance of lineage (anvaya) in Itihāsa: dynastic names preserve collective identity, social memory, and political legitimacy, showing how communities and royal houses are recognized through ancestral descent.

Vaiśampāyana continues a genealogical account, stating that the descendants of Duṣyanta and Parameṣṭhin were called Pañcālas, and that the powerful Jahlu’s descendants were known as Kuśikas—explaining how clan names arise from prominent ancestors.
