Śāṃtanu’s Ideal Rule; Devavrata’s Return; The Satyavatī Marriage Condition and Bhīṣma’s Vow

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dāna as a central dharmic virtue: even sovereignty and immense wealth are to be used for righteous giving, especially in support of sacred learning and social-religious obligations.

In Vaiśampāyana’s narration, a speaker (implicitly a royal figure within the story) declares having donated the entire earth along with conveyances, cattle, gold, and vast wealth, including an enormous number of cows—emphasizing extraordinary generosity and merit.
