Duḥṣanta–Śakuntalā: Gandharva Marriage and Succession Condition
The verse underscores the Mahābhārata’s emphasis on lineage and responsibility: a person’s renown and role (here, Haṃsa as Gandharva-lord) are framed as contributing to the stability and growth of a dynasty, highlighting the ethical ideal of sustaining one’s family line and social order.
Vaiśampāyana continues a genealogical account, stating that Ariṣṭā bore a son named Haṃsa, who became famous and attained the position of lord of the Gandharvas, and is remembered as one who advanced the Kuru lineage.
