Educational Q&A

Ritual life is governed by dharma: status does not exempt anyone from service. Even Indra is assigned a humble task, showing that discipline, obedience, and humility sustain sacred order.

During a sacrifice conducted under Kaśyapa’s authority, Indra is tasked with fetching sacrificial fuel. The Vālakhilya sages and other deities are likewise assigned to bring fuel-sticks, setting the stage for tensions about honor, duty, and ritual precedence.
