Shloka 42

जिधघांसुर्वासुदेवस्तं चक्रमुद्यम्प धिष्ठित: । स चक्रमुद्यतं दृष्टवा दिधक्षन्तं च पावकम्‌,कृष्णमशभ्युद्यतास्त्रं च नादं मुमुचुरुल्बणम्‌ | उन्होंने उस जलते हुए वनको और मारनेके लिये अस्त्र उठाये हुए श्रीकृष्ण तथा अर्जुनको देखा। उत्पात और आर्तनादके शब्दसे उस वनमें खड़े हुए वे सभी प्राणी संत्रस्त- से हो उठे थे। उस वनको अनेक प्रकारसे दग्ध होते देख और अस्त्र उठाये हुए श्रीकृष्णपर दृष्टि डाल भयानक आर्तनाद करने लगे

jighāṃsur vāsudevas taṃ cakram udyamya dhiṣṭhitaḥ | sa cakram udyataṃ dṛṣṭvā didhakṣantaṃ ca pāvakam, kṛṣṇam abhyudyatāstraṃ ca nādaṃ mumucur ulbaṇam |

Vaiśampāyana sprach: Vāsudeva, auf Töten bedacht, stand bereit, nachdem er seinen Diskus erhoben hatte. Als sie den erhobenen Diskus sahen, den Feuergott, der zu verbrennen trachtete, und Kṛṣṇa mit zum Schlag bereiter Waffe, stießen sie einen grauenvollen Schrei aus. Beim Anblick des Waldes, der auf vielerlei Weise in Flammen stand, und als ihr Blick auf Kṛṣṇa mit erhobener Waffe fiel, wurden die Geschöpfe dort von Schrecken gepackt und klagten in Qual.
