Mandapāla’s Lament amid the Threat of Fire
वरुणश्न ददौ तस्मै गदामशनिनि:स्वनाम् | दैत्यान्तकरणीं घोरां नाम्ना कौमोदकीं प्रभु:,तत्पश्चात् भगवान् वरुणने भी बिजलीके समान कड़कड़ाहट पैदा करनेवाली कौमोदकी नामक गदा भगवानको भेंट की, जो दैत्योंका विनाश करनेवाली और भयंकर थी

varuṇaś ca dadau tasmai gadām aśaninīsvanām |
daityāntakaraṇīṃ ghorāṃ nāmnā kaumodakīṃ prabhuḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana sprach: Darauf überreichte Varuṇa ihm eine gewaltige Keule namens Kaumodakī, deren Dröhnen dem Donnerkeil glich. Furchtbar an Macht und berühmt als Vernichterin der Dāityas, war diese Waffe ein Zeichen göttlicher Billigung und des gerechten Einsatzes von Gewalt gegen unterdrückerische, zügellose Kräfte.
