Educational Q&A

The verse underscores dharmic propriety in royal dealings: gifts should be fitting (yuktāni) to the recipients’ status and relationships, extending fairness and respect to all parties—Drupada’s sons, the Pāṇḍavas, and Kuntī—so that social bonds and honor are upheld.

Bhīṣma is giving counsel about what should be offered—specifically, that appropriate ornaments and related gifts be presented not only to one side but also to Drupada’s sons, all the Pāṇḍavas, and Kuntī, indicating a comprehensive and respectful distribution of presents.
