द्रौपदी-वरण-प्रत्ययः — Intelligence Reports and the Kaurava Court’s Response
अयं हि कामो द्रुपदस्य राज्ञो हृदि स्थितो नित्यमनिन्दिताड़ा: । यदर्जुनो वै पृथुदीर्घबाहु- र्धर्मेण विन्देत सुतां ममैताम्,सर्वांगसुन्दर शूरवीरो! राजा द्रुपदके हृदयमें नित्य निरन्तर यह कामना रही है कि मोटी एवं विशाल भुजाओंवाले अर्जुन मेरी इस पुत्रीका धर्मपूर्वक पाणि-ग्रहण करें
ayaṁ hi kāmo drupadasya rājño hṛdi sthito nityam aninditāṅgāḥ | yad arjuno vai pṛthudīrghabāhur dharmeṇa vindeta sutāṁ mamaitām ||
Dṛṣṭadyumna sprach: „Dieser Wunsch wohnt beständig im Herzen König Drupadas: dass Arjuna—breit und lang an den Armen—nach dem Dharma diese meine Tochter gewinne und sie rechtmäßig zur Frau nehme.“
धृष्टह्ुम्न उवाच
The verse foregrounds dharma as the proper framework for marriage and alliance: even a king’s personal wish is presented as legitimate only when fulfilled through righteous, socially sanctioned means (dharmeṇa), not by force or intrigue.
Dhṛṣṭadyumna publicly states King Drupada’s long-held intention regarding his daughter’s marriage: that Arjuna should be the one to win her—specifically through a dharmic, rule-bound contest/selection (svayaṃvara context), emphasizing Arjuna’s heroic stature and the bride’s excellence.
