The verse foregrounds dharma in travel: the strong and capable (the Pandavas) move through society where Brahmins and other dependents may be encountered; such meetings implicitly call for restraint, protection, and proper conduct—especially hospitality and respect toward Brahmins.
The Pandavas, traveling with their mother, proceed along the road and notice a large group of Brahmins traveling together, setting up the next narrative development involving this encounter.
