एकचक्रां ततो गत्वा प्रवृत्ति प्रददुः पुरे । ततः सहस्रशो राजन् नरा नगरवासिन:,राजन! उन्होंने एकचक्रा नगरीमें जाकर नगरभरमें यह समाचार फैला दिया; फिर तो हजारों नगरनिवासी मनुष्य स्त्री, बच्चों और बूढ़ोंक साथ बकासुरको देखनेके लिये वहाँ आये। उस समय वह अमानुषिक कर्म देखकर सबको बड़ा आश्चर्य हुआ। जनमेजय! उन सभी लोगोंने देवताओंकी पूजा की
ekacakrāṃ tato gatvā pravṛttiṃ pradaduḥ pure | tataḥ sahasraśo rājan narā nagaravāsinaḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana sprach: Sie gingen in die Stadt Ekacakrā und verbreiteten die Nachricht in der ganzen Stadt. Da, o König, strömten Tausende von Einwohnern zusammen. Vom Bericht angezogen, kamen sie, um die schreckliche Begebenheit um Bakāsura zu sehen—Männer mit Frauen, Kindern und Greisen—voll Staunen über die unmenschliche Tat; und in Furcht und Ehrfurcht wandten sie sich zur Verehrung der Götter.
