Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the ethical weight of a vow (pratijñā): once Bhīma commits to a task, action follows immediately. It also reflects the Pāṇḍavas’ disciplined life of hardship—living on alms—showing steadiness in dharma even under constraint.

Vaiśampāyana narrates to King Janamejaya that after Bhīma promises to carry out the intended task, all the Pāṇḍavas arrive at the spot bringing the alms they have collected, setting the stage for the next development in the episode.
