Ādi Parva, Adhyāya 147 — Kanyā-paridevita
The daughter’s lament on lineage and protection
The verse highlights vigilance and moral clarity in the face of deceit: when adharma operates through covert harm, the righteous must act decisively to protect life and prevent the wrongdoer’s aim from succeeding.
In the context of a fire set as part of a hostile scheme, the speaker urgently appeals to a capable protector to rescue them; otherwise, their death by burning would accomplish Suyodhana’s intended outcome.
