Ādi Parva, Adhyāya 146 — Brāhmaṇī’s counsel on grief, duty, and protection of children

भौमं च बिलमगद्यैव करवाम सुसंवृतम्‌ । गूढश्वासान्न नस्तत्र हुताश: सम्प्रधक्ष्यति,इसके सिवा आजसे ही हम जमीनमें एक सुरंग तैयार करें, जो ऊपरसे अच्छी तरह ढकी हो। वहाँ हमारी साँसतक छिपी रहेगी (फिर हमारे कार्योकी तो बात ही क्‍या है)। उस सुरंगमें घुस जानेपर आग हमें नहीं जला सकेगी

bhaumaṃ ca bilam agady eva karavāma susaṃvṛtam | gūḍhaśvāsān na nas tatra hutāśaḥ sampradhakṣyati ||

Yudhiṣṭhira sprach: „Lasst uns sogleich einen unterirdischen Gang in die Erde graben und ihn von oben gut bedecken. Dort wird selbst unser Atem verborgen bleiben — wie viel mehr erst unsere übrigen Handlungen. Sobald wir in diesen Durchgang gelangen, wird das Feuer uns nicht verbrennen können.“
