te vayaṁ mṛgayāśīlāś carāma vasudhām imām | tathā no viditā mārgā bhaviṣyanti palāyatām ||
Practical wisdom: even in uncertain or dangerous circumstances, one should prepare calmly and ethically for contingencies. Knowing the terrain and keeping options open is presented as prudent leadership rather than panic.
Yudhiṣṭhira proposes that they move about the region under the pretext of hunting, so they can learn multiple routes and be ready to escape if circumstances force them to flee.
