Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharma as practical ethical responsibility: a righteous ruler honours elders and even politically complicated relatives, ensuring their welfare and dignified living through respectful care and provision.

Vaiśampāyana describes Yudhiṣṭhira’s character and intended conduct: he will revere Bhīṣma and Dhṛtarāṣṭra (along with Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s sons) and arrange for them to enjoy appropriate comforts, emphasizing his dharma-minded kingship.
