Vāraṇāvata-prasaṃsā and the Pāṇḍavas’ Departure (वरणावत-प्रशंसा तथा पाण्डव-प्रयाणम्)
ततोअब्रवीत् तदा द्रोणं कुन्तीपुत्रो युधिष्ठिर: । उस समय कुन्तीनन्दन युधिष्ठिरने द्रोणसे कहा
tato 'bravīt tadā droṇaṃ kuntīputro yudhiṣṭhiraḥ |
Dann, in jenem Augenblick, wandte sich Yudhiṣṭhira, der Sohn Kuntīs, an Droṇa. Die Erzählung markiert eine förmliche, ehrerbietige Annäherung an einen verehrten Lehrer und setzt damit den ethischen Ton für die Bitte, den Zweifel oder die Unterweisung, die nun folgen wird.
वैशग्पायन उवाच
The verse foregrounds dharmic communication: even amid tension or impending conflict, one approaches elders and teachers with restraint and respect, signaling that ethical conduct begins with how one speaks.
The narrator indicates a shift to dialogue: Yudhiṣṭhira, identified by his lineage as Kuntī’s son, begins speaking to Droṇa, preparing the reader for the content of his address in the subsequent lines.
