Vāraṇāvata-prasaṃsā and the Pāṇḍavas’ Departure (वरणावत-प्रशंसा तथा पाण्डव-प्रयाणम्)

अहो वो धिग्‌ बल क्षात्रं धिगेतां व: कृतास्त्राताम्‌ । भरतस्यान्वये जाता ये वीटां नाधिगच्छत,“अहो! तुमलोगोंके क्षत्रिययलको धिक्कार है और तुमलोगोंकी इस अस्त्र-विद्या- विषयक निपुणताको भी धिक्‍कार है; क्योंकि तुमलोग भरतवंशमें जन्म लेकर भी कुएँमें गिरी हुई गुल्लीको नहीं निकाल पाते

vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca | aho vo dhig bala kṣātraṃ dhig etāṃ vaḥ kṛtāstratām | bharatasyānvaye jātā ye vīṭāṃ nādhigacchata ||

Vaiśaṃpāyana sprach: „Schande über eure Kṣatriya-Kraft—Schande selbst über eure gerühmte Waffenmeisterschaft! Denn obwohl ihr im Geschlecht Bharatas geboren seid, könnt ihr nicht einmal eine kleine Kugel aus einem Brunnen heraufholen.“
