Suta Goswami (narrating to the sages of Naimisharanya)
It anchors Linga-worship in an authenticated Śaiva transmission by naming rishis who preserve and pass on the disciplines and mantras connected with Mahādeva.
By presenting a lineage dedicated to Him, the verse implies Shiva as Pati—the supreme Lord whose knowledge is safeguarded by realized seers for the liberation of the paśu from pāśa.
The verse chiefly signals guru-paramparā (lineal transmission) associated with Pāśupata-oriented ascetic discipline (yati-dharma) rather than detailing a specific puja step.
