Agnihotra, Seasonal Śrauta Duties, and the Authority of Śruti–Smṛti–Purāṇa

नानिष्ट्वा नवशस्येष्ट्या पशुना वाग्निमान् द्विजः / नवान्नमद्यान्मांसं वा दीर्घमायुर्जिजीविषुः

nāniṣṭvā navaśasyeṣṭyā paśunā vāgnimān dvijaḥ / navānnamadyānmāṃsaṃ vā dīrghamāyurjijīviṣuḥ

Der Zweimalgeborene, der als Haushälter die heiligen Feuer bewahrt und langes Leben begehrt, soll weder neues Korn noch Fleisch essen, bevor er nicht zuerst das jahreszeitliche Ritual mit der ersten Ernte (nava-śasya) vollzogen hat und, wo es vorgeschrieben ist, auch eine Tiergabe dargebracht hat.
