Chapter 59 — अधिवासनकथनं
Adhivāsana: The Rite of Inviting and Stabilizing Hari’s Presence
Lord Agni (traditional Agni Purana dialogue voice, instructing the sage Vasiṣṭha)
Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Tantra","secondary_vidya":"Cosmology","practical_application":"Advanced bhūta-śuddhi: mentally organize adhibhūta (elemental domains), their presiding deities (adhidaiva), and associated powers (Sādhyas), then dissolve them क्रमाद् into tanmātra-receptacles, reversing manifestation toward subtle causes.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Tanmātra-pātrīkaraṇa and re-absorption of Adhibhūta–Adhidaiva powers","lookup_keywords":["adhibhūta","adhidaiva","sādhya","tanmātra","saṃhāra"],"quick_summary":"In bhūta-śuddhi, the practitioner systematically gathers the elemental strata with their presiding deities and powers, converts them into tanmātra-receptacles, and re-absorbs them stepwise—purifying cognition and subtle embodiment."}
Concept: World and self are interlinked strata (adhibhūta/adhidaiva) that can be cognitively ‘retracted’ into subtler tanmātras; liberation-oriented purification proceeds by reversing superimposition.
Application: Contemplate correspondences (element–deity–power–sense) and dissolve them in order; use stepwise attention to reduce reification of sensory world into subtle causes.
Khanda Section: Yoga–Tantra / Bhūta-śuddhi and Saṃhāra-krama (subtle-element dissolution practice)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A layered cosmological visualization: elemental realms with their presiding deities and ‘Sādhya’ powers arranged in tiers, then drawn inward into subtle tanmātra vessels, collapsing step by step into a luminous center.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, tiered mandala of elements and deities, bold outlines, each tier absorbed into inner lotus-petals representing tanmātras, culminating in a central bindu of light.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore, mandala-like composition with gold accents on deity emblems and central bindu, absorption shown by concentric rings moving inward, rich ornamentation but clear hierarchy.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore style, schematic yet elegant: concentric circles labeled adhibhūta/adhidaiva/sādhya/tanmātra, arrows indicating saṃhāra-krama, soft colors for legibility.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, allegorical assembly of subtle beings and deities around a meditating sage, then visually ‘folding’ into small vessels (pātras) depicted as luminous bowls, intricate detailing and balanced geometry."}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: Text includes critical apparatus markers; main sandhi: matiśālinīmiti = mati-śālinīm iti; adhibhūtādidevaiḥ = adhibhūta-ādi-devaiḥ; sādhyākhyair = sādhya-ākhyaiḥ; saṃharettat = saṃharet tat.
Related Themes: Agni Purana 59.3 (elemental dissolution lead-in); Agni Purana 59 (adhivāsana + inner purification context)
It teaches the saṃhāra-krama used in bhūta-śuddhi: mentally converting the gross constituents and their presiding deities into tanmātra-substrates and dissolving them sequentially back into subtler principles.
Beyond mythic narration, it preserves a technical yogic–tantric procedure (elemental purification and dissolution), showing the text’s coverage of practical sādhanā alongside theology, ritual, and metaphysics.
By orderly withdrawal of the elements and their divine regulators into subtle sources, the practitioner cultivates inner purification, sense-restraint, and a meditative return toward the causal ground—supporting liberation-oriented discipline.
