Agni Purana — Vastu-Pratishtha & Isana-kalpa, Shloka 7

(Jīrṇoddhāra) — Renovation and Ritual Handling of Defective Liṅgas and Old Shrines

FAQs

It gives a precise puja-vidhi sequence: where to place/build the maṇḍapa (south or īśāna), how to configure the west-facing doorway with a single toraṇa, and then to perform dvāra-pūjā followed by mantra-pūjā on the sthaṇḍila.

It combines ritual liturgy (dvāra-pūjā, mantra-pūjā) with spatial/architectural rules (directional placement, doorway orientation, toraṇa specification), illustrating how the Agni Purana integrates Vastu-temple planning with practical worship manuals.

Correct directional placement and preliminary doorway worship are treated as safeguards that purify the ritual space, remove obstacles at the threshold, and make mantra-worship efficacious, thereby supporting merit (puṇya) and ritual success (siddhi).
