एतदेव यदा पद्ममभूद्धैरण्मयं जगत् । तद्वृत्तांताश्रयांतं तत्पाद्ममित्युच्यते बुधैः
etadeva yadā padmamabhūddhairaṇmayaṃ jagat | tadvṛttāṃtāśrayāṃtaṃ tatpādmamityucyate budhaiḥ
এটাই সেই বৃত্তান্ত—যখন পদ্ম উদ্ভূত হল এবং জগৎ হিরণ্ময় (স্বর্ণময়) হয়ে উঠল। সেই কাহিনির আশ্রয়ে থাকায় জ্ঞানীরা একে ‘পাদ্ম’ (পদ্মপুরাণ) বলেন।
