atithiruvāca | atrāsti māmakaṃ tīrthaṃ mayā yatra tapaḥ kṛtam | hāṭakeśvaraje kṣetre purukāle dvijottamāḥ
Atithi
Tirtha: Atithi-tīrtha (within Hāṭakeśvara-kṣetra)
Type: kshetra
Listener: dvijottamāḥ (assembled brāhmaṇas)
Scene: Atithi, as a radiant sage, points to a sacred water-spot within Hāṭakeśvara-kṣetra while addressing assembled brāhmaṇas; faint vision of his past tapas appears behind him.
A tīrtha gains sanctity through tapas; the speaker reveals a place consecrated by his own austerities.
Atithi’s own tīrtha located in the Hāṭakeśvara-kṣetra.
Not yet a prescription; it introduces the tīrtha whose observances and benefits are described in subsequent verses.
