Bāṇāsura Receives Gaṇapatya; Genealogical Prelude
prahrādastatra hi mahānviṣṇubhakto jitendriyaḥ | yaṃ nāśituṃ na śaktāste'bhavandaityāśca kepi ha
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
The verse highlights that true spiritual power arises from bhakti joined with sense-mastery (jitendriyatā). Such inner purity makes a devotee unshakable against hostile forces, indicating that grace protects one who is steadfast in dharma.
In Shaiva Siddhanta, steadfast devotion to the Divine—whether expressed toward Saguna Shiva (as the Linga) or toward another form of the Supreme—purifies the soul and weakens bonds (pāśa). The verse mirrors how sincere worship and discipline make external negativity powerless.
The practical takeaway is jitendriya practice: daily mantra-japa with disciplined conduct. A Shaiva application is steady Panchakshara japa (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and mindful restraint of the senses to build inner protection.
