Praise of the Merits of Sacred Ponds, Tree-Planting, and Water-Charities

yasya mūle sthito viṣṇurmadhye tiṣṭhati śaṃkaraḥ | agrabhāge sthito brahmā kastaṃ jagati nārcayet

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

FAQs

It teaches that a sacred tree (or sacred support) is worthy of worship because it is envisioned as embodying the Trimūrti—Viṣṇu at the root, Śiva in the middle, and Brahmā at the top—making reverence to it an act of devotion to the divine order.

By framing worship as an obvious, heartfelt response—“who would not worship it?”—the verse promotes devotion through accessible sacred symbols rather than abstract philosophy alone.

It encourages reverence for sacred life-forms (like trees) and the cultivation of humility and gratitude, treating the natural world as a living locus of the divine rather than as mere utility.
