Cyavana Narrative within the Vena Episode
kariṣyasi mahārāja tanme kathaya sāṃpratam | subāhuruvāca | vāsudevābhidhānaṃ yatpūrvamuktaṃ hi brāhmaṇaiḥ
Sūbāhu (addressing the king)
Primary Rasa: vira
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Sandhi Resolution Notes:
The verse explicitly marks the speaker as Sūbāhu (“Sūbāhu said”), addressing a “mahārāja” (a great king).
The verse notes that the appellation “Vāsudeva” was previously uttered by brāhmaṇas, indicating an authoritative, tradition-backed recognition of the divine name and its theological weight in Vaiṣṇava contexts.
It foregrounds accountability and clarity in action (“tell me now what you will do”) and frames right understanding as grounded in trusted transmission (what was earlier spoken by learned brāhmaṇas).
