Mārkaṇḍeya uvāca | gurubhir aniyamair yukto bharato nāma pāvakaḥ | agniḥ puṣṭimatir nāma tuṣṭaḥ puṣṭiṃ prayacchati | bharaty eṣa prajāḥ sarvās tato bharata ucyate |
মার্কণ্ডেয় বললেন— যুধিষ্ঠির! ‘ভরত’ নামে এক পবক অগ্নি আছেন, যিনি গুরুতর নিয়ম ও কঠোর আচারে সংযত। তিনি সন্তুষ্ট হলে পুষ্টি ও সমৃদ্ধি দান করেন; তাই তাঁর আর এক নাম ‘পুষ্টিমতী’। তিনি সকল প্রজাকে ধারণ ও পালন করেন; সেইজন্যই তাঁকে ‘ভরত’ বলা হয়।
