युद्धयमानं शरै राजन् सिज्जिनीथ्वजिनीरवात् | अन्योन्यं वीरसंशब्दो नाश्रूयत भटै: कृत:
sañjaya uvāca | yudhyamānaṃ śarai rājan siñjinī-dhvani-nīravāt | anyonyaṃ vīra-saṃśabdo nāśrūyata bhaṭaiḥ kṛtaḥ | jighāṃsantaṃ yudhāṃ śreṣṭhaṃ tadā āsīt tumulaṃ mahat ||
সঞ্জয় বললেন—হে রাজন, তীরবৃষ্টির সেই যুদ্ধে ধনুকের টংকার, পতাকা ও সেনাদলের কোলাহলের মধ্যে যোদ্ধাদের পারস্পরিক বীর-গর্জনও শোনা যাচ্ছিল না। শ্রেষ্ঠ যোদ্ধা ভীষ্মকে বধ করতে উদ্যত বীরেরা যখন তাঁর ওপর ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়ল, তখন যুদ্ধ মহা বিস্তৃত ও ভয়ংকর তুমুল হয়ে উঠল।
