Dāyavibhāga (Inheritance Apportionment) and Household Precedence — Dialogue of Yudhiṣṭhira and Bhīṣma
प्रसिद्ध भाषितं दाने नैषां प्रत्यायकं पुन: । ये मन्यन्ते क्रयं शुल्क न ते धर्मविदो नरा:
bhīṣma uvāca | prasiddhaṃ bhāṣitaṃ dāne naiṣāṃ pratyāyakaṃ punaḥ | ye manyante krayaṃ śulkaṃ na te dharmavido narāḥ |
ভীষ্ম বললেন—দানের বিষয়ে (বিশেষত কন্যাদানে) লোকের মধ্যে এই কথাই প্রসিদ্ধ—‘কন্যাদান’ হয়েছে। অতএব যারা শুল্ক বা ক্রয়মূল্যকেই বিবাহের স্থাপন বলে মানে, তাদের কথাকে প্রতিষ্ঠা করার মতো নির্ভরযোগ্য প্রমাণ নেই। যারা ক্রয় ও শুল্ককে মান্য করে, তারা ধর্মজ্ঞ নয়।
