स्वधर्म न प्रहास्यामि नेष्यामि च बलेन गाम्‌ | (क्षत्रियोडस्मि न विप्रो&हं बाहुवीय्योंडस्मि धर्मतः । तस्माद्‌ भुजबलेनेमां हरिष्यामीह पश्यत: ।।) ब्राह्मण अत्यधिक शान्त और जितात्मा होते हैं। उनमें बल और पराक्रम कहाँसे आ सकता है; फिर क्‍या बात है जो आप मेरी अभीष्ट वस्तुको एक अर्बुद गाय लेकर भी नहीं दे रहे हैं। मैं अपना धर्म नहीं छोडूँगा, इस गायको बलपूर्वक ले जाऊँगा। मैं क्षत्रिय हूँ, ब्राह्मण नहीं हूँ। मुझे धर्मतः अपना बाहुबल प्रकट करनेका अधिकार है; अत: बाहुबलसे ही आपके देखते-देखते इस गायको हर ले जाऊँगा

Viśvāmitra uvāca: svadharmaṁ na prahāsyāmi neṣyāmi ca balena gām | kṣatriyo ’smi na vipro ’haṁ bāhuvīryo ’smi dharmataḥ | tasmād bhujabalenemāṁ hariṣyāmīha paśyataḥ ||

বিশ্বামিত্র বললেন—“আমি আমার স্বধর্ম ত্যাগ করব না; এই গাভীকে বলপ্রয়োগে নিয়ে যাব। আমি ক্ষত্রিয়, ব্রাহ্মণ নই; ধর্মতঃ বাহুবল প্রদর্শনের অধিকার আমার আছে। অতএব তোমাদের চোখের সামনেই আমি ভুজবলে এই গাভীকে হরণ করে নিয়ে যাব।”
