एतद् वो ज्योतिः पितरस्तृतीयं पञ्चौदनं ब्रह्मणेऽजं ददाति । अजस्तमांस्यप हन्ति दूरमस्मिंल्लोके श्रद्दधानेन दत्तः
etád vo jyótiḥ pitaras tṛtī́yaṃ pañcáudanaṃ bráhmaṇe ’jáṃ dadāti | ajás támāṃsy ápa hanti dūráṃ asmíṃl lókē śraddádhānena dattáḥ ||
This, O Fathers, is your third light: he giveth the fivefold rice-porridge, with a goat, unto the Brahman. The goat driveth the darknesses far away—here in this world—when it is bestowed by one who hath faith.
হে পিতৃগণ, এটাই তোমাদের তৃতীয় জ্যোতি—যে ব্রাহ্মণকে পঞ্চৌদন (পাঁচপ্রকার অন্ন-ভোগ/খীর) ও একটি অজ (ছাগল) দান করে। এই অজ এখানে এই লোকেই অন্ধকারসমূহকে বহু দূরে তাড়িয়ে দেয়, যখন তা শ্রদ্ধাবান ব্যক্তি দ্বারা দত্ত হয়।
