Concept: Śāstra-pramāṇa and textual lakṣaṇa: a tradition is authenticated by doctrinal anchors (mantra), dharma exposition, and recognized narrative nodes.

FAQs

It gives a classificatory criterion (lakṣaṇa) for identifying the Bhāgavata Purāṇa: it is structured around the Gāyatrī and contains an extensive dharma-teaching along with the Vṛtrāsura-slaying narrative marker.

By providing taxonomy—how to recognize and differentiate Purāṇas through internal markers (opening mantra-frame, doctrinal scope, and signature episodes)—the Agni Purāṇa functions as a reference manual for Puranic literature.

It directs the reader toward a dharma-expounding, Bhagavān-centered scripture framed by the Gāyatrī, implying that study/recitation aligned with mantra and dharma yields purification and devotion-oriented merit.
