Chapter 17 — सृष्टिविषयकवर्णनम्

An Account Concerning Creation

Concept: Creation is not instantaneous differentiation; it includes a latent phase (parivatsara) wherein the creator-principle (Hiraṇyagarbha) abides before manifesting multiplicity.

FAQs

It conveys cosmological doctrine (sarga-vidyā): Brahmā as Svayambhū arising from Hiraṇyagarbha, and the symbolic “one-year” (parivatsara) period marking a complete cosmic cycle of gestation/manifestation.

By preserving a standard Purāṇic cosmogony (Hiraṇyagarbha → Svayambhū Brahmā) and a time-unit motif (parivatsara), it exemplifies how the Agni Purāṇa compiles theology, cosmology, and traditional chronography alongside its many practical disciplines.

Contemplation of Brahmā’s self-born emergence from the cosmic germ supports a creation-centered worldview, encouraging reverence for the divine origin of order (dharma) and the cyclic sanctity of time (the completed annual cycle).
