The verse highlights a recurring Shiva Purana theme: worldly boons can bring temporary satisfaction, yet they do not equal Shiva’s grace that leads to inner purification and moksha. The asura’s joy is immediate and external—returning to his realm—pointing to the limited horizon of desire-driven attainment.
In the Shiva Purana narrative flow, beings approach Saguna Shiva for tangible results (boons). This verse shows the “boon-and-depart” motif, implicitly contrasting transactional seeking with Linga-worship grounded in devotion, surrender, and seeking Shiva as Pati (the Lord) rather than merely a giver of powers.
The takeaway is to choose devotion over mere boon-seeking: daily japa of the Panchākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and a rudrākṣa mala, offering the fruits of practice to Shiva—so the mind becomes truly “suprasanna” through bhakti, not through external gains.
