Bāṇāsura’s Wrathful Command and the Onset of Battle at the Inner Palace
dainyaṃ palāyanaṃ cātha śūrasya maraṇādhikam | viruddhaṃ copaśalyaṃ ca bhavediti matirmama
A warrior-hero addressing his side in the battle narrative (as narrated by Suta Goswami in the Rudrasaṃhitā, Yuddhakhaṇḍa)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Vīrabhadra
It teaches steadfastness (dhairya) and dharma: surrendering to fear and self-debasement is spiritually more damaging than bodily death, because it strengthens bondage (pāśa) through cowardice and ego-collapse rather than disciplined resolve.
In the Yuddhakhaṇḍa mood, Saguna Shiva is revered as the inner Lord who grants courage and right discernment; devotion stabilizes the mind so one does not abandon dharma under pressure, just as one holds firm to the Linga as the unshaken center.
Practice japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) for fearlessness and steadiness; apply Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) with the intention of detachment from the body, so duty is performed without panic or disgraceful retreat.
