Sthala Purana: Not a Jyotirliṅga passage; the verse functions as an omen-setting narrative in the Vṛndā episode, where delusive power precipitates impending calamity.
The verse highlights how māyā can shape perception through signs like dreams, testing steadfastness (vrata) and discernment; in Shaiva understanding, one must not be led by appearances but remain anchored in dharma and devotion to the Supreme.
Though the verse mentions Hari’s māyā, the Shaiva narrative framework emphasizes that worldly events and inner experiences can be veils; worship of Saguna Shiva through the Liṅga cultivates steadiness and clarity to transcend māyā’s disturbances.
Maintain vrata with mental purity, and practice japa (especially the Panchākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) before sleep to stabilize the mind and reduce agitation from fearful or inauspicious dream-impressions.
