कुम्भकर्णोपदेशः
Kumbhakarna’s Counsel and War-Boast to Ravana
अथवात्यक्तशस्त्रस्यमृद्नतस्तरसारिपून् ।।6.63.45।।न मेप्रतिमुखेस्थातुंकश्चित् शक्तोजिजीविषुः ।
athavā tyaktaśastrasya mṛdnatas tarasā ripūn |
na me pratimukhe sthātuṃ kaścit śakto jijīviṣuḥ ||
নচেৎ অস্ত্ৰ ত্যাগ কৰিও, কেৱল বলৰ জোৰতে মই শত্ৰুসকলক চূর্ণ কৰিম; যি জীৱিব বিচাৰে, তেনে কোনোবাই মোৰ সন্মুখত থিয় হ’বলৈ সক্ষম নহ’ব।
"Or else giving up weapons and swords using my arms indeed I can crush, and no one can stand in front of me."
The verse highlights how unchecked pride (ahaṅkāra) and reliance on brute force can cloud righteous judgment; Dharma values restraint and right means, not merely power.
A warrior is boasting of invincibility and promising to crush the opposing forces even without weapons, as a way to embolden his side before the battle.
Not a virtue but a trait: overconfidence and aggressive valor—courage divorced from humility and ethical restraint.
