Bhagavān (the Blessed Lord) addressing the Devas; then the Devas respond

Concept: The divine invites articulated intention: desires should be spoken clearly and oriented toward cosmic welfare; boons are ‘vara-ān varān’—best when aligned with dharma.

Application: Before asking for outcomes, clarify what you truly seek and why; align requests with the good of others to avoid self-defeating boons.

FAQs

The speaker is Bhagavān (the Blessed Lord), addressing the Devas as “sons” (putrāḥ). After being addressed, the Devas respond with their request.

It presents a divine dialogue motif: the Lord invites the Devas to state their wish and promises to grant excellent boons, after which the Devas begin to speak.

It highlights the importance of clear intention and responsible desire: when given the opportunity for boons, one should articulate wishes thoughtfully, recognizing the weight of divine gifts.
