Adhyāya 62: Sañjaya’s Admonition to Dhṛtarāṣṭra on Rāja-dharma and Consequence
anyonyam anruvan devāḥ kam ayaṁ dhāsyatīti vai | mām evāyaṁ dhayatv agre iti ha smāha vāsavaḥ ||
The verse suggests that true authority is validated by protective care: Indra’s prominence is expressed not through domination but through taking responsibility for the child’s nourishment and safety.
The gods see a brilliant infant resting in his father’s lap and wonder who will nurse him; Indra (Vāsava) intervenes and insists the child should first drink his milk.
