The verse highlights the dharmic and strategic idea that the ‘heart’ of a formation must be held by the most capable and resolute warriors. In epic ethics, martial skill (yuddhaviśāradatā) is not merely technical prowess but also steadiness of mind and readiness to bear the consequences of one’s chosen allegiance.
Sañjaya is describing to Dhṛtarāṣṭra the internal arrangement of a battle-array in the Droṇa Parva. He specifies which notable Kaurava-aligned warriors are positioned at the formation’s central core, indicating both tactical importance and the intensity expected at that point of engagement.
